The carnival procession dances it's way down the High Street |
In just five short years Stroud Fringe Festival has gone from very small beginnings to one of the best festivals in the country. The idea started with four friends wanting to bring the many talents of Stroud together with a few invited guests from further afield.
The concept captured the imagination of the town and visitors alike and a ‘festival with a difference’ was born. Our aim was, and is, to be eclectic, inclusive and fun.

The Cosmic Sausages - entertaining for free with a big audience |
With the huge amount of diverse talent available right on our doorstep we have been able to put a fantastic programme together each year and continue to grow with every festival.

Comedy acts bring the house down |
Stroud is a strange town, you can’t quite put your finger on why it is agreeable to such a wide variety of people. But agreeable it is and when you mix the musicians, artists, poets, thespians, dancers, craftpersons, and townsfolk with the likes of Rolf Harris, Lonnie Donegan, Tikio Drummers, African dancers and the Natural Theatre Company then it becomes an especially unique, warm and welcoming community.

A childrens festival runs at the same time |
When the fringe festival takes place the whole town comes together. On every street corner something is happening and you never know what might be around the next. The warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere that happens is spontaneous and infectious, attracting people and artistes alike.
Stroud Fringe Festival has been likened to ‘
A Glastonbury in
Town’ (minus the mud) and ‘
The place to be’.

Crowds throng the Town during the fringe festival |
Situated in the heart of the five valleys, the journey to the town itself is worth the visit. Add this to the vast selection of entertainment on offer during the Festival and you will soon realise why it truly is an experience not to be missed.
The Stroud Fringe Festival always takes place over the second weekend
in September.
