Getting To Stroud

Stroud is situated in a beautiful rural location in Gloucestershire. Whilst enjoying some of the finest countryside the Cotswolds has to offer there is easy access by road or rail.

  • Just ten minutes from Junction 13 on the M5, half an hour north of Bristol.
  • One and half hours from London Paddington on the main railway line to Cheltenham.

Stroud is within easy motoring distance from other Cotswold towns. Cheltenham, Cirencester and Gloucester are all within half an hour. The nearest motorway is the M5 with Stroud clearly signposted from Junction 13 five miles to the west. Other main roads to the town are the A46 coming from Bath in the south and heading north to Cheltenham and Gloucester. And the A419 coming from the Roman town of Cirencester to the east.
Once you arrive in the Town there are a number of perimeter car parks, all clearly sign posted. Don't try and drive right into the centre of the town since much of it is pedestrianised and you'll have to double back out again.

Stroud Road MapBy Rail:
Stroud station is 2 minute walk from the town centre. It is on the London Paddington to Cheltenham line. There are direct services to London which take 1 hour 30 minutes or you will need to change at Swindon adding around 15 minutes to your journey. For train times check the Railtrack timetable.

By Bus:
Stroud bus and coach station is situated at Merrywalks just a 1 minute walk from the town centre. There are regular services to Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester, Bath, Swindon and all the local villages. For timetable information contact Stagecoach Bus Line 01453 763421.

Taxis:
There are taxi ranks in the Rail Station forecourt, on King Street Parade outside Woolworths and on London Road near the Town Council Offices. Taxis can also be hailed in the street. Airports:
Nearest airports are Bristol International, East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International. London Heathrow is also easily accessible by rail with the Heathrow Express connecting direct into London Paddington Station where there are direct trains to Stroud. Gatwick Airport has rail links to Reading which is on the London Paddington–Cheltenham line.

Canal:
Although the Stroudwater Canal runs through Stroud, connecting two of Britains major rivers the Severn and the Thames via Sapperton Tunnel, it is no longer navigable. It is planned to reopen within the next five to ten years, but in the mean time the nearest point on the Canal network is Saul Junction on the Ship Canal near Framption.
